April 16, 2006 Easter Sunday research visit to Arusha
Hilda (0748-323-753) @ CCF Orphanage in Arusha (Children for Children’s Future)
Approximately 60 children plus babies
Ages range from 8-12 years but fluctuate
Drugs and alcohol are not allowed
Voluntary admittance, free to come and go, rules must be observed
Children are invited to stay by word of mouth via other street children
Food, water, soap and shelter offered to anyone who has the need
Also services provided to watoto who don’t stay at the residence
No age restrictions, once child is finished school , he/she looks for a job, but can still receive support for life on his/her own
Such support includes rent, furniture, etc
Neighborhood donors who see a need can sponsor a child education
Without solicitation people come to donate rice, mchele, chakula, etc
Children are taken to schools, both primary and vocational
Government schools cost 40, 000tsh per year, bright student get lucky
Apprentices at large garages, direct work with fundi’s on school holidays
CCF 15 years in operation, without government support
Have received no financial support, no salaries for staff
15 workers for both centers (CCF & MAJI NA CHAI)
Doctor services free when sickness occurs, only staff go without
MAJI NA CHAI (for girls) center, include home visits to relatives and educational tutoring to catch children up to there age group/grade
MEMKWA- Tanzanian wide program
Hilda is connected to other center, for means of monitoring run-away mtoto and establishing a best practices. She is chief cook at CCF
